Autism Team of LaPorte County Recent Events:2008-2009

The 2008-09 school year is upon us and activities are happening even while we go about our business of everyday life.

The Autism Social was held by the Autism Team in October and it was very well attended.  This fall it was held in the cafeteria at Hailmann School and it worked out well being in a smaller setting.  There were approximately 70 children and adults.  I think we will use the cafeteria there again in the future.  We are hoping for some nice spring weather in May and might be able to have an EVENING PICNIC SOCIAL at Kesling Park for our carry in. 

The Autism Team members of Karen Cooper, Wendy Swanson, Ann Dames, and Mandy Teets, met with 5 teenagers on the spectrum at Luigis's Pizza for a GREAT TIME.  It was so good to see our teens interacting with each other and us socially.  In January we will meet again with other team members and see how good our bowling (and social) skills are. 

Most recently we held a BREAKFAST WITH SANTA at Hailmann cafeteria.  Santa came to visit on Saturday, December 6, 2008 from 9 AM till 10:30 AM.  What a super time we all had.  Chidren with autism and their siblings enjoyed donuts and juice or milk, made ornaments for their trees, wrote letters to Santa and  got free pictures taken on Santa's lap...or next to Santa.  (see the picture page for some glimpses on the great time we had).
